Random thoughts and Saint Mary Magdalen

I have decided, first, that I bake when I am stressed. When I am nervous and anxious, I bake. I do believe this is how I master the art of some random hobby. I do it when my nerves are on end. Then, once I am proficient, I pick up a new hobby. Except baking. And cleaning. Because those always need to be done and please everyone.

Ok, you aren't here for my blabber, you are here for your daily installation of St Facts.... Here goes:

St. Mary Magdalen

Patronage apothecaries; Atrani, Italy; Casamicciola, Italy; contemplative life; contemplatives; converts; druggists; glove makers; hairdressers; hairstylists; penitent sinners; penitent women; people ridiculed for their piety; perfumeries; perfumers; pharmacists; reformed prostitutes; sexual temptation; tanners; women

  • Friend and follower of Jesus. Exorcised by Him. Visited by the Risen Christ.

  • When Mary Magdalen came to the tomb and did not find the Lord's body, she thought it had been taken away and so informed the disciples. After they came and saw the tomb, they too believed what Mary had told them. The text then says: "The disciples went back home," and it adds: "but Mary wept and remained standing outside the tomb."

We should reflect on Mary's attitude and the great love she felt for Christ; for though the disciples had left the tomb, she remained. She was still seeking the one she had not found, and while she sought she wept; burning with the fire of love, she longed for him who she thought had been taken away. And so it happened that the woman who stayed behind to seek Christ was the only one to see him. For perseverance is essential to any good deed, as the voice of truth tell us: "Whoever perseveres to the end will be saved."

from a homily by Pope Saint Gregory the Great

So, I researched her because 1. she is a Patron Saint of Women. And 2. All of the guys thought she was really hot in Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter [Though I still say the lead Vamp was super hot]....

Anyway, she's less exciting than I thought. Well, from what I found. Though, as a character in the Bible and just her history, she's pretty awesome. I wonder why there's not much about her Saint hood.

Oh, yay, more exciting info:

  • Tradition has labeled her a prostitute.

  • It is said that seven devils had been cast out of her (Mark 16:9).

  • It is the identification of Mary of Bethany with the "sinner" of Luke 7:37, which is most combatted by Protestants. It almost seems as if this reluctance to identify the "sinner" with the sister of Martha were due to a failure to grasp the full significance of the forgiveness of sin.

Ok, bored now because the internet is getting too frustrating.
I am sad, however, that she has no prayers.

That is all.
Goodevening.
